At St. Austin Catholic School, we believe that every child CAN learn in his or her own unique way. With different learning styles comes a need for differentiated instruction and support. Through our academic support programs, we offer individualized instruction to students with identified diverse learning needs. As a school rooted in the Catholic faith, we are committed to providing an educational environment that is safe, inclusive, and strives to meet the needs of all learners.
Available to all students from their first day to their last, our student support team is dedicated to developing each student’s unique strengths and talents. We are able to accomplish this through a variety of resources including: on-site tutoring, facilitation of outside support specialists to do therapies on campus during the school day, testing accommodations, and in-class adjustments, all tailored to the individual needs of the student.
For students needing classroom accommodations, an accommodation form is completed in collaboration with parents, teachers, and our Student Support Specialist. Accommodations are a change in learning or testing that helps to provide the removal of barriers and allows for equal access to learning. Accommodations do not change what a student will learn but change an aspect of how a student will learn. Accommodations fall under the following categories:
Preferential Seating
Small group Testing
Tests read Orally
Frequent Check-Ins for Understanding
Extended Time for Tests
Use of Manipulatives for Math
Use Computer to complete written work
Additionally, in an attempt to offer clarity and reinforcement, all teachers are available one afternoon or morning per week in his/her respective classroom to offer assistance to students. Each teacher will provide the parents the chosen day he/she will be available to tutor. In addition, if a student is unable to meet during the predetermined time, the teachers will try to be flexible.
Eligibility for classroom and testing accommodations is based on approved psychoeducational evaluations documenting a student’s learning differences. Once evaluation documentation is received the Student Support Specialist will review and approve of the evaluations. An accommodations meeting may then be set up to discuss recommended classroom and testing accommodations. Once finalized, accommodation forms are given to all teachers on a student’s team. A list of recommended assessors is available if needed.

St. Austin believes that continuation of care is essential for a student after they complete a formal treatment program. As they continue to grow personally and academically, our staff and faculty are trained in helping students become their own best advocates for getting the help they need, while also being partners that are equally invested in the child’s success.
