Value of art to a child
Why is art so important? Is it any worthwhile value to the child? Following are ways in which art is of value to a young child. These can also be considered as the goals of an art experience and projects can be evaluated accordingly.

- Develops work habits and a sense of responsibility
- Aids the adult in understanding and helping the child
- Generates joy
A good art program is one that helps children to grow creatively, aesthetically, socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. The most important things a child learns in school or anywhere are ideas about himself or herself. So often these ideas form into a self-concept of "I can't", "Why try?", "I'm not capable", What's the use?". For such children, art could be the one bright light, the time of the week that they can, when they are capable because an accepting adult celebrates each one's effort. Such appreciations from an adult can cause the child to start thinking highly of himself or herself, which might never occur if only academic subjects are offered during the day.
