Dear Parents--
PSIA District 8A Tournament will be held in Austin on 11 March 2010. This is a school day--Thursday.
The tournament will be held at Bannockburn School in SW Austin, Brodie and Wm. Cannon. There is a $5.00 entry fee per contest entered. Your child should report to the St. Austin table NO LATER THAN 30 minutes prior to their contest. Your child should tell whoever is supervising that they are leaving Bannockburn. Students, grade 3 and younger, must be accompanied by a parent or a Middle School student while at Bannockburn.
In the Middle School this contest day is an excused day of absence. In the lower grades since very few students will be participating in more than one contest you should use your judgment as to whether the entire day will be missed.
PSIA is run by volunteers. Because of this, each school is expected to help run and judge contests, including grading student tests. St. Austin will have to fill at least 45 volunteer positions. If you child is competing you will be asked to help in some capacity. We can not participate if we do not do this. In fact, one Austin school that always competes against us is not competing in this district and has to travel to Seguin because they did not meet this obligation. Please help us if you can.
If your child advances to the State "A" Tournament that will be on a Saturday--1 May 2010 at TCU in Ft. Worth, Texas. The day before the contest is an excused absence for traveling to Ft. Worth.
If you have any questions at all please ask me or e-mail me at gjohnson@staustinschool.org.
