Third Grade
(updated 9/5/2010)
The students (and their teacher!) are really starting to get the hang of the new year! Thank you for your patience, trust, and perseverence as we work through the inevitable kinks in the system. Hopefully, you are noticing progress with your child and are pleased with what he/she is sharing with you about the school day!
I want to let you know that I will have a sub for my class for September 13-15. Many of you are already familiar with Mrs. James, our former Fourth Grade teacher. She has subbed for me in the past and is very familiar with the routine of Third Grade. While she will be teaching the students their lessons, I do not expect her to be grading their work and she will not be entering grades on Snapgrades. Thus, any grades for your child from Friday, September 10th (I will be leaving immediately after school) to Wednesday, September 15th will be graded and entered on Snapgrades over the weekend of the 18th. The exception to this will be the Spelling pretest. Mrs. James will grade the pretests and send home the papers so you will know if your child will be exempt from Friday's test. PLEASE BE CERTAIN to return your child's signed pretest if he/she earned between a 90 and 99%.

Continued focus on PBIS values. This week, we more closely examine Community and integrate all four values. We will also continue to more closely examing traits from our Be A Champ! classroom management strategy. In the event your child hasn't expained this to you, CHAMP stands for: Conversation, Help, Activity, Movement, and Participation. Each of these words has list of acceptable ways to work through our school day. The following are the choices for each word:
Conversation: Silent, Partner Voices, or Group Voices
Help: Raise Your Hand, Ask a Friend, Ask Your Group
Activity: Do Own Work or Group Combines Effort for One Product
Movement: Stay Seated, Move With Permission, or Responsible Movement
Participation: Work Independently, Work With a Partner, or Work With Your Group
At a glance, a student can look to see what he/she is supposed to be doing with regard to Conversation.
Math:
Keeping in mind that our Math program is spiraling in nature, any topic that has been previously listed will be revisited on a frequent basis. Thus, I will only be listed new skills or concepts to be covered during the week.
As you can see from the below list, we are continuing to work through the first ten lesson's skills and concepts. This week, your child will begin taking home his/her Math Folder to share with you. Please know that this folder MUST be returned to school each day so that your child will be ready for the next day's lesson. Thank you for your help with this.
